Steve Sozio, MD

Associate Professor, Department of Medicine

Dr. Sozio was born and raised in Baltimore, and spent his undergraduate and medical school years at Hopkins. After earning his medical degree, Dr. Sozio completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Subsequently, he completed fellowship training in Nephrology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Master of Health Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Education in the Health Professions degree program at the Johns Hopkins School of Education. Dr. Sozio joined the School of Medicine faculty in Nephrology in 2009.

Dr. Sozio’s research interests include studying chronic kidney disease epidemiology, determining risk factors for stroke and cognitive impairment in patients with kidney disease, and performing comparative effectiveness research in patients with ESRD.

Dr. Sozio has also taken a leadership role in the Johns Hopkins medical school and fellowship curriculum, by being Course Co-Director for the courses on Renal Pathophysiology and Epidemiology, Core Faculty for several other medical school courses including the Scholarly Concentration in Clinical Research course, Associate Program Director in the Johns Hopkins Nephrology Fellowship Program, and Colleges Advisor in Nathan’s College.
