Richard A. Schaefer, MD, MPH, FAAOS
Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
Dr. Schaefer hails from Buffalo, NY. He is a graduate of the United States Military (BS), Tulane (MD), and Uniformed Services University (MPH). He completed orthopaedic surgery residency at the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Colorado and orthopaedic oncology fellowship-trained at the Mayo Clinic.
Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Schaefer served in the U.S. Army, retiring from active duty at the rank of colonel. He had a number of stateside and overseas assignments at military medical facilities, including two tours in Afghanistan, and a faculty position at the Uniformed Services University.
Dr. Schaefer is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS) and a member of several orthopaedic societies. He has a longstanding interest in medical student education and is proud to be a faculty advisor in Taussig College.
