Meredith Atkinson, MD, MHS
Dr. Atkinson is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College and the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and completed both her residency and fellowship training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also received an M.H.S. in clinical epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public health, and her research interests include risk factors for chronic kidney disease co-morbidities and health care disparities in children.
Since joining the faculty in 2007, Dr. Atkinson has been active in medical education and also serves as faculty in the Clinical Research Concentration in the Scholarly Concentrations course. She maintains an active clinical practice caring for both inpatients and outpatients with kidney disease including children on dialysis and requiring kidney transplantation, and spends a large amount of her time on clinical teaching of pediatric residents and nephrology fellows. She also participates in national advocacy for children with kidney disease through her work as an elected councilor of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology. She finds working with medical students among the most rewarding aspects of her career.
